3-Day Adelaide to Melbourne Tour Including the Great Ocean Road

1 / 13

Overview

Join a micro-group of just 8 guests for a relaxing, rewarding and stimulating tour full of scenic diversity. Birds eye views of cities, vast farmland, famous wine regions, extinct volcanoes, coastal icons, shipwrecks, rainforests and winding cliff top roads.

Add to this some great food and wine and small group of like-minded travellers and you have a very memorable 3 days. The itinerary has been carefully planned so that you will take in many different experiences while keeping the schedule at a comfortable and relaxed pace.

The first part of this tour through farmland on route to Naracoorte Caves and the Coonawarra wine region is less visually spectacular and is therefore done at a faster pace to allow more time on the Great Ocean Road. Traveling in a small group of no more than 8 people will also allow you more time at places and a more personalised experience.

What to expect

Day 1 Adelaide - Mount Gambier

  1. Mount Lofty Summit

    15 min

Mt Lofty Summit with sweeping views of Adelaide is the highest point in the Adelaide Hills.

  2. Hahndorf

    30 min

Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement and still has a strong German flavour most evident in the smallgoods outlets, bakeries, pubs, restaurants and cafes that line the bustling main street.

  3. 1 hour 30 min Admission ticket included

You visit the Naracoorte Caves National Park for a cave tour with a local guide. These limestone caves have an abundance of Stalagmites and Stalactites and are World Heritage Listed Area due to the fossils of the ‘Mega Fauna’ found buried in the Caves

  4. Coonawarra

    45 min

Coonawarra is the most important wine region within the Limestone Coast zone of South Australia, credited with producing some of the best red wines in the entire country, and often described as Australia's most famous terroir. We stop here to enjoy a drop, or two, of their amazing wines

Day 2 Mount Gambier - Skenes Creek

  1. The Blue Lake

    15 min

First up is a visit to one of the youngest volcanoes in Australia with a crater lake that changes colours twice a year!

  2. Port Fairy

    30 min

This picturesque town was voted the most liveable town in the world in 2012!!

  3. 30 min

Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve sits in a large volcanic crater. It is one of Victoria's most fascinating and significant geological formations. The first National Park in the state where we drive down into the crater and if lucky we may have the chance to see Koalas, Kangaroos and Emus

  4. London Bridge

    45 min

After lunch it is time to start the world famous Great Ocean Road. The first breathtaking view will be at Bay of Islands. Bay of Martyrs and the famous London Bridge (where tourist were stuck after the bridge collapsed in 1990) are coming up shortly after

  5. Loch Ard Gorge

    40 min

You then visit ‘Loch Ard Gorge’, the site of the most famous 19th century Australian shipwreck. We retell the entire story from the calm voyage, the tragic wreck, the courageous survivors and their ultimate fate. While hearing the tale you will be able to see and hold some original artefacts, photos and documents from the ‘Loch Ard’ contained in our treasure chests.

  6. Twelve Apostles

    40 min

The 12 Apostles are Icons of Australia’s natural beauty. We arrive as the stacks are lit with the morning sun making them perfect for photos and crowd free. This is a bonus for taking a 2-day trip as the stacks are silhouettes in the afternoon and overcrowded. After hearing of the creation of the stacks and holding some of the limestone rock you can explore the boardwalks or brave a helicopter flight along the coastline (own expense).

This popular tourist town is full of restaurants and cafes and boasts great shopping and swimming beaches. After lunch we drive along the surf coast and take in the surf culture of the region with a visit to Torquay and Bells Beach.
